You gota roll with it…

For those over in the Northern Hemisphere one of the key trends to take note of this AW14 is the Roll Neck. And for those here in Melbourne, like myself, it is definitely cold enough to pull off this look. (I am usually torn between my love for the sunshine, and my love of winter clothes… I think Melbourne and I are going to get along just fine).

Cosy, oversized and snuggly, a trend that I’m happy to follow. However, sometimes, choosing the right one can be difficult – not all are flattering. If you’re unsure about the style opt for an over-sized knit, perfect with skinny jeans and boots/Cons. But, if you’re body confident, then why not opt for a skin-tight knit – a great option for the office in winter, teamed with cropped cigarette pants or a pencil skirt.

Gents, this is a trend for you also… perhaps you good-looking couples out there could try to style out a ‘his n’ her’s’ roll-neck combo, or… maybe not.

Here’s some roll-neck inspo for you;

These boots are made for…

Many of you will know from reading my blog, that I love a good pair of boots.

Ankle boots, shoe boots, tall boots…but mostly black boots.  I think it stems from a love of the ‘Kate Moss’ uniform of skinnies and ankle boots back in the day, but this has now evolved, and whilst Kate will always remain in mind as she looked in her heyday, I have now moved on to new style icon, Emmanuelle Alt, so currently I’m coveting these from Topshop…

Topshop £68

Stylistpick were lovely enough to send me a pair of over-the-knee boots. I absolutely love them.  At first I was a little weary due to them being made of PU leather – a bicast leather (also known as bycast leather, split leather or PU leather), which is a split leather with a layer of polyurethane applied to the surface and then embossed.  I was pleasantly surprised when I received them, and to be honest haven’t stopped wearing them since!  They certainly don’t look ‘cheap’ and they’re super comfy and extremely versatile.  They also keep my legs rather warm in the cold weather.

Having rather skinny legs (which in this case, isn’t a blessing) I also thought that the fit may be on the large side.  I have a problem with all knee boots usually, so tend to select other styles because of this. However, they are designed to be loose around the leg and the buckle at the back of the knee enables you to tighten them.

They are the first pair of over-the-knee boots I’ve owned and this has (unfortunately) for my bank balance developed my love for boots – but in a different direction.  This is quite a trend this year, and celebs worldwide are sporting this look, as are catwalk models for AW12.

Alexander Wang and Vera Wang 2012

These are next on my wish list. They are AMAZING.  I must have a bit of a thing for tassels at the moment…

Ash Boots

Over-the-knee boots can been seen as being rather on the slutty side (think Pretty Woman), and so it is important to wear the appropriate clothing with them.  For example, leggings and a slouchy knit jumper look great, as do tights and a jersey t-shirt dress…

Here I’ve teamed mine with a black slouchy knit, tassel bag, skinny jeans and red lipstick.

My ‘Edited’ Space from Topshop….

The Edited space at Topshop, is an excellent idea.  Hats off to the Topshop Marketing team.

Everyone is always interested in what industry professionals, celebrities and models would choose when they’re out shopping, and here Topshop gives you the opportunity to see exactly what Katie Shillingford – top fashionista/leading lady of the über cool fashion pack/Fashion Editor of Dazed & Confused magazine – would wear.  So up until 16th August, in Topshop flagship Oxford Street store, we can get to see just what Katie would buy.

I’ve scoured the website, and come up with a selection of items, which I suppose compile a personal wishlist, but also doubles as my own Edited space – what I think should be the key pieces in the transition from summer (if we can call it that) to winter this year.

Hope you enjoy my selection ladies!

These Boots (£140) are simply amazing.  It was love at first sight.  Mega high, chunky and fabulous detailing.

Well, it wouldn’t be my Edited space without a black garment.  This sexy little number (£36) combines my love for this sombre colour, as well as AW11’s trend of spots.  Spots will be everywhere.

The colours in this tee (£32), are just perfect for autumn.  I’m loving silk at the moment, and in this fabric it instantly adds class and sophistication – perfect with skinny trousers.

Again, another silk option (£40).  The shirt will be a staple item for AW11, as well as the shirt dress.  The colour is beautiful, soft and mellow but can be hardened up with a black high-waisted pencil skirt or toned down with jeans at the weekend.

These little fishnet socks (£4) are a great way to add a style statement to a pair of heels, worn with black cigarette trousers or shorts for the summer.

Everyone needs a big chunky knit in their life, even now during the ‘summer.’  This (£50) is great for when the evenings get a little chilly – and in these autumnal tones, it’s perfect for the coming season. Love these shorts (£38)!  Aren’t they the cutest?! In brown suede, they are just great for this season and next.  Reminiscent of 60’s and 70’s trends, they would look super stylish teamed with black opaques and chunky heels.

I can’t believe this is only £39.  There’s so much you could do with this.  Add a jumper – and you have a pair of trousers, add heels – perfect for a night out, add brogues and a skinny tee underneath – great for the weekend.

I never wear pink.  But these would be an exception!  I’d wear these with my black skinny jeans and a white shirt done up to the neck. I love the tassles! (£30)

The androgynous trend is huge for AW11, and therefore it’s a perfect excuse to relieve your feet from the pain of heels and get yourself a fine pair of sturdy brogues.  These are just perfect (£55).

I wouldn’t normally opt for something like this, but in the way of accessories, this would would transform an outfit (£32).  Wear with a little white vest or LBD for a night out.  This also comes in other colours.

The extremely fashionable Rumi Neeley of Fashion Toast wore this (£100) recently in one of her snaps but in a blush pink colour.  Now, my wardrobe consists mainly of black so I felt this would be a great addition.  In silk, and very much like a dressing gown, I guess you’d feel very comfortable but sexy! Great to dress up a pair of jeans.

I had to throw this into the mix!  This is so cute, and in cord too – just like the items I used to wear when I was a child.  I’d personally wear this (£32) with opaques, biker books/brogues and a little vest top.

The colour of this is (£48) is just gorgeous, and with a floral/leafy design, lends itself to autumn quite nicely.  Sixties shift dresses are very on trend for AW11, but in a summery colour, this will follow the transition into AW11 just nicely.
